Heat Pump Technology

How do heat pumps work?

Heat pumps extract low temperature energy from the environment and increases their temperature for heating purposes. Heat pump efficiencies are normally quoted as the coefficient of performance of the system, these are typically in the range 3 to 5. In other words, extracting heat from renewable sources requires just 1kW of electrical input in order to generate 3kW to 5kW of heating output. Heat pump systems therefore, are 3 to 5 times more efficient than fossil fuel boilers and are more than capable of warming a house completely, even during the lowest winter temperatures. The increasing popularity of these heating systems is reflected by their overwhelmingly successful application in the cold climates of Scandinavia.

Residential Heat Pumps

Daikin Altherma heat pumps are a total domestic heating and hot water system based on air source heat pump technology. It represents a flexible and cost-effective alternative to a fossil fuel boiler, with a cooling option. The inherent energy efficiency characteristics of Daikin Altherma make it an ideal solution to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions.

Heat Pumps - Energy Efficient Heating

Daikin Altherma heat pumps heats up to 5 times more efficiently than a traditional heating system based on fossil fuels or electricity. Giving a pleasant warmth to your home by making use of the heat in the outside air, you use lower energy while still enjoying a stable and pleasant level of comfort. Daikin Altherma heat pumps provides energy efficient, eco-friendly heating.

Minimal installation cost

Daikin Altherma takes heat form the air. No digging or excavation works are required. Both the outdoor and indoor units are compact. The external unit can be located easily outside any building, including flats. Without flames or fumes, there is no need for a chimney or constant ventilation in the room where the Daikin Altherma’s indoor heat pump unit is installed.

Buying a new house or apartment is just the start. Turning a house into an efficient and environmentally sustainable home takes just that bit longer. When it comes to choosing a heating and hot water system, Daikin knows that modern homeowners want affordable warmth, consistent comfort and ample hot water available throughout the year.

Households that use traditional hot water boiler systems suffer from the average cost of heating and hot water being around 75% of total energy costs.

The Daikin Altherma heat pump solution is a renewable energy solution which uses heat from the air around us to provide heating and hot water efficiently all year round, even on the coldest of days.
Traditional heating and hot water systems depend on expensive and non sustainable fossil fuels like oil, gas or solid fuels like coal. The Daikin Altherma air source heat pump solution uses a renewable energy source (the air around us) to produce low cost heating and hot water, saving up to 50% in energy costs compared to these fossil fuel systems.

Air source heat pumps

For every kilowatt of energy used, the Daikin Altherma air source heat pump solution produces between 3 to 5 kilowatts of energy for heating and hot water. Return on investment averages between two and six years and life time fuel savings will be many thousands of pounds when compared to traditional boiler systems.

Heat pumps for commercial-social housing

Daikin Altherma is certified under the MCS scheme* and eligible for grants under the Low Carbon Building Programme (LCBP).

The MCS is an independently administered scheme (on behalf of DEFRA) and provides consumers the guarantee that certified products and certified installers of those products have conformed to a rigorous set of standards.
